A SISU Health station has been installed at Boots Nottingham city centre to improve access to preventative health checks across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.
The launch, which attracted coverage from ITV News and BBC Radio, highlights growing interest in how early detection can be embedded into everyday community settings. Watch the ITV segment below.
The Boots Nottingham station forms part of a programme supported by Health Innovation East Midlands and the Nottingham City Place-Based Partnership. In addition to the city-centre location, a second station has been installed at Stapleford Care Centre, extending access across different parts of the local system.
High blood pressure is the single biggest contributor to heart disease, to kidney disease, to strokes… and very often people have no symptoms. Anything we can do that empowers our citizens to be able to get some information about their health and then act upon that, be given some advice and signposted to services to help them live more healthily, is really important.
Dr. Husein Mawji, Nottingham GP & Clinical Director of Nottingham City Place-Based Partnership
Together, these locations reflect a deliberate approach to placing preventative health infrastructure in settings that are convenient, familiar and accessible – particularly for people who may not routinely engage with traditional screening routes.
The launch event brought together partners from across the local health and care system, including NHS colleagues and Thriving Nottingham, highlighting the collaborative nature of the programme and its focus on joined-up prevention.

Importantly, the station is linked to local support pathways. With consent, individuals can be referred directly to smoking cessation and adult weight management services, helping ensure that potential risk identified through a check can be followed up with appropriate, locally available support.
In addition to supporting individual access and follow-up, the anonymised, aggregated data generated by the station will help local teams build a clearer picture of health needs across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. These data insights can be used to inform public health planning, target prevention activity more effectively, and ensure resources are aligned with the needs of local communities over time.
The Boots Nottingham installation illustrates how prevention can be embedded into everyday settings through partnership working between the NHS, local authorities, innovation organisations and the private sector. By making checks easier to access and connecting them with local services, the programme supports a more proactive and preventative approach to health.
