SISU Health recently took part in a staff wellbeing showcase at New Shire Hall, supporting Cambridgeshire County Council’s focus on prevention by making preventative health checks easier to access for staff in the workplace.

Making wellbeing easier to access

The showcase formed part of a wider Physical Wellbeing Roadshow for council staff, bringing together interactive activities and stalls focused on areas such as back care, sleep hygiene, healthy eating, oral health and staying active. As part of the programme, staff were able to use the SISU Health station to check and track key health measures including blood pressure, BMI and heart rate, helping build awareness of cardiovascular health in a familiar and accessible setting.

What the SISU Health station gave us was access. Nearly two-thirds of participants told us they hadn’t had a blood pressure check in the previous 12 months, which shows we were reaching people beyond our routine services. The model works alongside NHS Health Checks as a valuable front door, opening up earlier conversations about cardiovascular risk and connecting people to the right support.

The event also provided an opportunity to highlight how public health funding is being used across Cambridgeshire, with a range of local initiatives on display.

SISU Health’s involvement builds on its ongoing partnership with Cambridgeshire County Council, which has seen health stations deployed across workplaces and public venues to improve access to early detection and support a more preventative approach to health across the county.

Following the showcase, the health station remained on site for staff over the subsequent days, helping extend access to preventative health checks and supporting a more proactive approach to physical wellbeing as part of everyday working life.

Health and activity summary

  • 91 health checks
  • 69.5% hadn’t received a blood pressure check in the past 12 months
  • 11.3% of participants recorded high blood pressure
  • 65% of participants were overweight or obese
  • 16 health checks triggered a GP call-to-action (17.6%)
