From identifying previously undetected cardiovascular risk to prompting positive lifestyle changes, this evaluation explores the impact of Southwark’s community health kiosk programme. Covering July 2021 and May 2024, the report examines participation, health outcomes and operational insights that can help public health teams design more inclusive prevention services.
In urban areas like Southwark, health inequalities run deep. Many people miss out on vital health checks due to time, cost or access – particularly those most at risk. Without early detection, conditions such as high blood pressure and obesity often remain undiagnosed until they cause serious harm.
To help address this, Southwark Council, NHS South East London ICB and SISU Health introduced self-service health kiosks in libraries and leisure centres, making preventative health checks more accessible within everyday community settings.
84% of users who were advised to take action did so, with 77% becoming more active and 69% improving their diet.
